hello, my dp wants beef for christmas dinner this year, and i have stupidly bought silverside, instead of topside.
can i still roast it??? my mum said i can not. as its normally boiled or something.
im gutted because i don't want to go out and buy more meat.
can i roast it? and if so how??
thankyou in advance. i have to bath the dcs now but i will have a look back later.

Yes you can roast it.

i think you need to pot roast it, and then it'll be fine. so in a pot with a tightly fitting lid and a small amount of liquid to create steam.

I've buy small joints of Silverside to use in packed lunches, this is what I do..

I put it in a roasting tin, with a carrot, celery, onion and a bayleaf. Then pour a good amount of beef stock into the bottom, seal the tin completely with foil. I roast it slowly for a couple of hours. Then when its cooked just drain the stock, seive out the veg, and bayleaf and use the stock for gravy.

I've only ever had small joints, so can't give you an exact cooking time, but the meat has been lovely and tender.

Hope that helps

Yeah sure you can rost silverside, I buy this from Sainsbo's all the time when they have their regular half price saving on it.

I don't tend to cook it for that long , I like mine pink inside, but I find it cooks alot quicker than other beef joints

You do all that for a packed lunch?
