Loss of Appetite

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice. My DD has always been a good eater but over the past week or so she has started to refuse her food and has gagged on it when we have managed to get her to have some.

She has a little bit of a cold but other than that she is her usual bright happy self. I think we are more stressed by the whole situation than she is!!!

She is eating bits - but no where near as much as she normally does. What do you think we should do? Is it just a stage or do you think it's related to her cold? Or does anyone have any advice on how to coax her out of this (she is 9 months old. Thanks for your help

Hi PandaBear - Could be partially blamed by her cold but also just a stage. My kids all went through stages like this around this age and still till this day. Their 13,10,2 yrs. I think most kids go through this at some time or another.

I would just let some time pass. Maybe after her cold she'll start eating a little better. If not then try not to worry she'll pick up on her eating again eventually.

Could be teething. Or, our family has just had a bug which I can only assume our 19 month old DS had, where you feel nasueaous all the time and do not want to eat. Our DS hardly ate anything for two days, admittedly not a whole week but it could be something like that

PandaBear - My ds (21 months) had a loss of appetite after a bug and a pharmacist friend recommended a tonic esp for kids called Minadex (i think that's right). It's meant to perk them up a bit (vitamins & minerals) and help them get their appette back. It gave me piece of mind as he was at least getting vitamins etc while he wasn't eating and after a couple of days his appetite returned.

Thank you all for your comments. I stopped stressing out so much and didn't try to force her to eat. Her appetite returned with a vengance (sp??) yesterday!!!
