Marzipan

I've just been marzipanning my first ever Christmas cake Anyway, I now have two questions:

1. do I leave it to dry in the open air, or do I put it in an airtight container?

2. i have quite a bit left. Any ideas on what I can do with leftovers?

Make some marzipan shapes/stars for the top of the cake. I don't know about leaving it in the air. I'm assuming it will go dry though so maybe a airtight container is a good idea?
