Shortbread Disaster - Need Help!!!

Made a batch of lovley shortbread this morning which turned out really well - lovely and crumbly etc etc! Just made another batch and they are a total disaster - the shapes have spread and joined up on the tray!

Followed the same recipe but used a different brand of butter - could this be the reason? Thought that the dough didnt come together from the crumb stage as easily as this morning so.....
Will have to make another batch before tomorrow - is it worth putting the dough in the fridge for a while to make it less soft before rolling??? Help - am sitting here covered in flour, not feeling full of festive cheer wishing I had just brought boxes of flippin chocolates instead of giving sodding shortbread!

Stick it in the fridge for minimum 2 hours and then try it.

It can either help or make no difference, nothing ventured nothing gained.
