Have a lovely couple coming over and I'm not feeling very inspired. I would like to do things that I can prepare in advance as we will eat in the kitchen and I like to look effortless

Was thinking about just some great smoked salmon and soda bread to start (canapes first) then maybe some kind of lamb or beef with daupnoise potatoes followed by a chocolate truffle torte and/or cheese.

Boring?? Any suggestions for lamb or beef - I don't want to be cooking steaks to order. That menu is just a possible - I'm happy to forget it if you can think of something more exciting!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks MrsW - that sounds like the way forward. Boned and rolled is a good idea.
