....And do I put anything in it? I've just bought some sachets out of curiosity but have no idea what it's supposed to be.

It's a japanese broth made from miso paste. It's delicious. However, I should warn you that most of the instant ones, while totally drinkable, are not in any way as good as the real thing.

It would normally also have tofu and seaweed in it.

its minging!

TsarHumbug · 16/12/2008 17:18

Ah thank you! So 50/50 as to whether it's nice or not, so far

Well, I'll give it a go. It says you can put noodles in it too.

I wanted to like it. I love Japanese food in general. But it tasted like someone had boiled a few old twigs and some smelly socks in dishwater....

ramonaquimby · 16/12/2008 17:20

ohh I love miso soup - instant packs would be vile though - not a patch on the real stuff

DeckTheHallsWithBling · 16/12/2008 17:21

I did have to acquire the taste somewhat. And I needed to have it at proper japanese restuarants before I came to like it.

TsarHumbug · 16/12/2008 17:21

ROFL! Oh dearie me..maybe not one to try on dh and the kids tonight then...

miso soup is lovely warming & hearty (homemade or jap restaurant)

i dont rate the packet stuff though
miso is lovely i use it as stock (comes in many variations) you can get it from good health stores
it can have tofu, nori, diakon & veg bits etc in it too

TsarHumbug · 16/12/2008 18:18

This could be one of the fastest journeys from shop to bin in history.

The word dishwater has been referred to twice. I'll try it though and report back.

If I got miso paste from a weird ethnic shop, what would I do with it to make miso soup, and would it be nice?

AuraofDora · 16/12/2008 18:24

tsar humbug ..do you drink packet soups normally? you have a packet version of a home favourite iykwim

TsarHumbug · 16/12/2008 18:49

AuraofDora No come to think of it I don't usually. I do have tins though.

These aren't dried though, they are little sachets of paste (miso stuff?) that you dissolve with hot water (and then throw away!).
