What is cookeen?

moondog · 15/12/2008 22:51

Wtf?
Doesn't sound appetising though

I've googled. It's a vegetable fat for baking. Sounds very old fashioned.

It'll keep in the fridge for a long time.

Thanks mimizan - just looked at the best before date and it says 11/09!! So will keep in fridge.

Cookeen is vegtable oil. I was told that it makes pastry less heavy. It's also cheaper than butter and I'm on a thrift mission.

We were brought up on it. Mum used it for deep frying and shallow frying.
