Butternut squash substitute

BNS seems to be the latest "in" ingredient in receipes especially stews and soups. As I'm allergic to pumpkin I have to avoid BNS as its the same family Am unsure of the texture the BNS would give to a soup/stew and would welcome opinions and suggestions for suitable substitutes - had thought along the lines of swede or sweet potatoes - what does anyone think. Thanks xxx

Sweet potatoes would be just the sort of thing. They go well with all the same kinds of flavourings like coconut and spices.
