Toast - cold or hot?

I think I might prefer cold toast.

I often take toast into work for brekky, and its yummy. But I had never considered that I prefered it this way, whenever i had a choice I would of course have it hot. Until just now.

I was not hungry this morning, so my hot butter toast, with jam was left on the kitchen table. Just got back from Drs and in need of a pickmeup, so I have just eaten a peice.

And it was bloody lovely. So much so that I am going to make some more, and leave it to go cold before I eat it!

I like it cold and chewy too, but dp thinks I am weird

NomDePlume · 12/12/2008 11:42

Hot hot hot, all the way

Cold toast and loads of creamy butter is the dogs bolleaux

NorbertDentressAngel · 12/12/2008 11:44

I'm firmly on the fence here -I like it somewhere in between so some of the butter melts and some of it doesn't.

Cold with butter and brown sauce or marmite. Hot with peanut butter put on the moment it pops out of the toaster. Basically it all depends on the topping!

gingerninja · 12/12/2008 11:49

I like it either way but if cold, must be stood up to go cold first and buttered in its cold state. Don't like hot buttered toast gone cold.

PavlovtheRedNosedReindeer · 12/12/2008 11:50

Katerina75 - not at all weird. Clearly good taste!

I agree only some toast cold - ie jam. Peanut butter better warm.

AND, it cannot be cold, then the butter spread, it has to be butter spread, melted, jam on, then left to go cold and as Katerina put it, chewy...

Agree with the standing it up to cool. I have convinced myself that's the best way to make it go crunchy although I think I am probably deluding myself and it's more to do with the bread used in the first place.

EachPeachPearMum · 12/12/2008 11:57

Hot for me- has to be buttered and marmited the second it pops up! Then scoffed immediately.
I don't like DH making it, as he faffs too long before buttering

Divvy · 12/12/2008 11:58

What about toasted on one side only?

sagacious · 12/12/2008 11:59

Hot with melty butter OR cold and crunchy with scraped butter

And it has to be white, wholemeal is just wrong

Soggy is just yuck

PavlovtheRedNosedReindeer · 12/12/2008 12:03

Has to be white.
Has to be toasted on both sides.
Soggy cold is good, soggy warm, not so good.

I think there is scientific proof that standing it up makes it crunchy. If you lay it down, the moisture condensates and makes it go soggy. You lot with your soggy cold though. erh.

White bread, good
Brown, not good

Butter, good
Marg, stinking

Malkuth · 12/12/2008 13:50

Lidl's malted sliced stuff makes brilliant cold crunchy toast. Soggy cold bleugh!

Cold, chewy toast - mmmmmm. Otherwise known as Motorway Toast to my sister and I. How do Motorway Sevice Station make toast like that? You know, still crunchy to the touch and eye, yet chewy in texture and tepid? It's damn good!

However in the morning cannot be faffing around waiting for toast to cool, so it's hot hot hot for me normally
