Having friends over for dinner just after Xmas and am planning on doing Jamie's Beef and Ale Stew.

What should I serve with it?

I was thinking some form of potatoes? How about veg - would braised red cabbage and honey be OK?

thanks.

I think mash always goes well with a stew, mops all the sauces up.

I'm not sure about the braised red cabbage, I always think it goes better with a grilled or roasted meat dish, eg pork chop or roast beef.

Broccoli is always lovely, could probably do somehthing with that.

Green beans might be good too, there is a nice way of cooking them in Jamie's new book too.

Definately potatoes-mash would be good, but as you'll have the oven on anyway could do some roasties at the same time as teh stew.

Personally, I think the cabbage would be too wet, and I'd do something green. Maybe purple sprouting, just steamed so it's still nice and crunchy to add a bit of texture.

potato/parsnip mash?

The stew has veg so why not simply a good loaf of crusty bread and salad with greens ( add broccoli/green beans etc...)?

Thanks for the ideas. Am crap at mash so will do roasties and bread and green salad.
