So I've got two other couples coming for dinner next week, bit of a traditional pre-Christmas get together.

I've decided on the menu and also decided that a chocolate-based pudding would be my best bet.

Can I have your recommendations, please? Only stipulation is that I should be able to prepare them in advance, because time is of the essence, plus the layout of my house makes cooking-while-entertaining a bit of a nightmare.

Much appreciated.

Chocolate mousse would be easy prepped before hand and served from the fridge?

With a touch of alcohol added to it of course!

Just found this

Delias chocolate truffle torte is absolutely foolproof, a real crowd pleaser and better if made in advance. Very easy to do and can't go wrong!

I was about to post the same as sallyallyally. I love it. It's in her Christmas book or you'll find it on deliaonline. It can be hard to get hold of liquid glucose IME so don't leave that to the last minute!!

Sallyallyally · 04/12/2008 20:58

Found the liquid glucose at the chemists!

Agree with sally retorte. The other one I do often is metling mocha fondant puddings, a sort of hot sponge that oozes molten choc suace when cut open, best served with whipped cream. It is a bbc food websitereciipe but it isnt working atm but willpost when avaliable (it is really simple to do but tastes fantastic)

Nigella's chocolate and pear pudding with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream is fantastic. Soooo easy too. I do it all the time now and everyone loves it.

tassisssss · 04/12/2008 21:08

sally, i usually get it in boots. one time boots had none left and i had to phone about 6 chemists before i found one that stocks it!

Agree re melting middle choc puds - Nigella has a recipe for them in one of her books - Domestic Goddess maybe? I serve them with home made banana ice cream, which is basically bananas and cream whizzed together and then flung into an ice-cream maker.

Slurp.

Agree melting middle chocolate puds.
So easy to make in advance and then just pop in over for 10-15 minutes.
They are divine and always get lots of compliments!
