Make your own "expensive" mazipan sweets

I'm totally shocked at the price of shaped marzipan sweets! Almost £9 for a few bits shaped like fruit and veg!
Also, the chocolate covered marzipan is at least £1.50 a bar.
This year i'm going to make marzipan snowmen using white marzipan and have little coloured hats on them, also make some little parcels.
Just wondering what chocolate to put on marzipan bars. Tried some belgium chocolate on a bit of marzipan and that was quite nice, but i suppose it has to be dark chocolate and not milk chocolate.
My dad, loves marzipan and he can sit down and eat a whole block in one sitting if you let him

I always used to make marzipan sweets for my mother when I was little

Chop a block into even bite sized pieces

Dip in melted dark chocolate

Then dip 3/4 of it in something nice (i used to do orange zest candied stuff, dessicated coconut, curled white chocolate etc

Leave 1/4 plain and you can stand on this end to dry

I would eat a whole block too! Definitely needs to be dark chocolate to go with marzipan. I always get a huge bar in my Christmas sticking (thank you MIL).

We used to make marzipan fruits at school, which is marzipan defaced by a child with the aid of food colouring and dirty fingernails.
