Need Ideas/Inspiration for meal with friends on Saturday

We have some friends coming over to meet our new dd2 on Saturday and DH has offered to cook!

I asked my friend if the DDs & DS were coming and if there are any food no-nos.

Sooo, DD1 is now veggie who doesn't like cheese or mushrooms, her DH doesn't like anything too spicy (when we do curry it is a mild one) and isn't a fan of pasta...

We used do a curry & rice with all the bits and pieces (before their DD became veggie) and people helped themselves. As meat-eating, cheese & mushroom loving carnivores we are at a bit of a loss as to what to cook!

it needs to be quick so DH isn't in the kitchen for hours - any ideas...?

Oh, and both parents are chefs [eeek]

How about

  • Sausages (vege for those who are non meat), Mash,Veg and Gravy for those who will eat it.
  • Mexican : Vege or normal chilli (not too spicy)or chicken/veg/steak for fajitas, tortilla wraps or rice, sour cream etc
  • Baked Pots with various fillings to suit all tastes.

Hope that helps

I have made Veggie lasagne in the past, Similar to carnivore style but with quorn mince, or just finely chopped veggies (fried in olive oil first as the meat substitute), or a spinach & Toasted pine nut lasagne (Same principle - nut allergies?). Or a veggie bubble and squeak (Buttenut squash to spuds 50/50) but presentation may be a problem. one hour tops....
