I can bake, but I have no artistic talent at all, what do I make for the cake stall?

They have a stall each morning at the nativity, so ideally, I need 4 lots of cakes. (The school really don't ask for much and as this is something I can do, I'd like to do my bit)

I was going to do mince pies and gingerbread men (I can manage eyes and buttons, just!) but honestly anything that needs decorating is beyond me. Even fairy-cakes with a bit of plain icing and sprinkles end up looking a mess. What small cakes, look nice without decorating? At home I makes things like fruit cakes, or victoria sandwich with jam and a plain top.

I'd say mince pies don't need decorating at all. So they're a winner.

Chocolate crispy cakes don't need decorating either, but are hardly going to stretch your culinary skills.

I'd just do some fairy cakes or small muffins - they're not decorated.

Can you make carrot cake into cake cases?? Never tried. Tasty and decoration is minimal. imo a small cake needs decorating.

We have made lemon twirl biscuits in the past, a basic biscuit recipe with lemon added and sprinklings of icing sugar. You can roll it and cut it, or just 'make blobs'.

Ok, I've just done the cake stall at the school jumble sale for the third year running. You need to make as many small fairy cakes/cupcakes as you can manage. In paper cases with pink icing (glace or butter) or white icing with a sweet on top (chocolate button/jellytot etc). It doesn't matter what they look like really, as these sell as fast as you can put them out. Plain cakes are about a million times less popular. Even gorgeous swanky homemade chocolate torte was a hard sell compared to the most basic iced fairycakes. Hope that helps!

Don't worry about them looking a mess, honestly. Nobody cares. I put butter icing on with a fork and top with a chocolate button if I'm feeling artistic, otherwise just drop on pink glace icing which runs all over. People like obviously home-made cake anyway.
Chocolate crispy cakes are the next best-sellers btw.

Everyone loves a chocolate brownie.
