Chipsticks!

Does anyone know if there is anything like Ready Salted Chipsticks still around? They used to be made by Smiths, who were taken over by Walkers, and they stopped making them. You can apparently now get salt & vinegar ones again, but not the Ready salted... does anyone know if there's another brand?

They were the little narrow sticks - not the big puffy ones you can sometimes get. I think they were actually cut from potatoes not mashed and mixed with additives and extruded....

oooh yes, I know the ones you mean. hard and crunchy ones?
sainsburys used to sell their own brand but I don't know if they still do

i think these are them

Those look like them, but the strange thing is we had some from Sainsbury's a year or two back, and DH didn't think they were quite the same somehow... I'm not sure what the difference was - they were always his favourite but he wasn't convinced by the Sainsbury's version. I'm more of a dry-roasted-peanut fan myself so I'm not sure exactly what the difference was...

Ooooh yes..I love these, remember them as a kid.."KP minchips"..in 3 flavours ..... ready salted, BBQ Beef and Salt & Vinegar...ahhh happy days. I have been buying these regularly now from Asda....an own brand product and in my opinion they are the same as I remember, but you can only get Ready salted..but 75p for a huge bag what a bargain. If anybody finds them in a different flavour please come and tell us...sorry if that was a hijack!!!!

Walkers have brought the Salt & vinegar ones back out - but the description on the pack doesn't sound right to me - www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?Store=2&Product=14475. They are a mix of maize and potato, not proper little hard chunks of potato.

But I'll see what DH thinks of the Asda ones - it's not somewhere we usually shop, but I can get to one without too much hassle, specially for tasty Crimbo treats!

M & S do them! (in fairly big packs)

DH and DS would like to thank you all - the ASDA ones have now been tested (very thoroughly!) and declared to be definitely as good as the old Smiths Crisps ones! I think we'll be having a rather fattening Christmas here....

Ah, salt and vinegar minichips, you would open the packet and immediately start salivating at the strength of the salt and vinegar flavour. God they were good.

A misplaced chip could stab badly mind you!

Pleased you liked them
