Is it ok for me to put unopened yoghurts that have been in my ds's lunchbox back in the fridge to use another day?

They are out of the fridge for about 4ish hours....Ok to put back in the fridge and eat another day or do I need to throw them away?

If the yoghurt has a while to go on the use by date, I probably would, but then I am scummy! I wouldn't send it in his lunchbox another day though, just keep it to eat at home.

seems such a waste to through them away (but then I am scummy too )

i would def not use them as been out of fridge for a while, so warm and then bacteria can start to grow

peonyflower · 20/11/2008 20:51

Wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

As long as within use by date!! The dinner ladies at our school get really touchy about out of date yogs..........

AnarchyAunt · 20/11/2008 20:52

I do this.

They are kept in a coolbag, in an unheated cloakroom, for about 6 hours. I just chuck 'em back in the fridge for another day.

If the top has started to blow, I throw them out.

littlefrog · 20/11/2008 20:56

I'd have thought it was fine. Yoghurt is meant to be full of bacteria - that's what makes it yoghurt not milk!

peonyflower · 20/11/2008 21:39

We all waste far too much good food. A Aunt is right - if the top is bulging throw it but otherwise give it to the kids.

Eat in the house. If you weren't worried you wouldn't post. I'm really naff at working out if food is safe or not. Defrosting food seems to be my nightmare. I'll create another thread about that another day!

digitalgirl · 20/11/2008 21:47

It's only yoghurt. If it's mouldy/rancid tasting when you open it then I wouldn't eat it, but otherwise it's fine. I've eaten room temp, lid bulging yoghurt before and am still here to tell the tale.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 20/11/2008 21:52

it will taste or smell off therefore you won't eat it

food spoilage as opposed to food poisoning

stick them back in the fridge

starbear · 20/11/2008 21:55

Oh I've been eating natural yogurt for years that have been well out of date. IF its tastes good eat it. But I'm still rubbish with all the other food stuffs.

Anifrangapani · 20/11/2008 21:57

My parent's did that to me....

If the top is raised it is off.

Having said that I hate yoghurt now. Probably something to do with the one that exploded in my face [gaging face]
