Delia's how to cheat - do you use it? What are the best cheats?

Is it not more expensive using the cheats? Do you really buy mashed potato discs? Just browsing through my copy and wondering where to start!

I haven't got the book, just looked at a friends copy. The cheats are definitely more expensive & I can't say I was inspired by any of the recipes. Mashed potato discs are yummy however.

Wallaroo · 20/11/2008 12:42

Yes I agree, I'm not overly inspired either

Anyone else?

I use the chilli recipe quite a bit and the lemon tart recipe.

I looked at the book when it came out and thought it was dreadful. I have never heard of a mashed potato disc and have no desire to discover what on earth one may look or taste like.

My best cheat tips are:

Take a packet of custard creams. Dip in hot coffee. Eat.

Take a packet of pasta and cook it. Mix it with a jar of pesto. Sprinkle on cheese. Eat.

Sorry - I should be on the cranky people's thread tonight instead. Ignore me.

But if you've got any custard creams, please chuck em this way before you ignore me.

Wallaroo · 20/11/2008 20:06

lol janeite these are for you

The rest is pretty dreadful - mine was a present from someone who hadn't actually looked inside it as I'm the last person to ever used frozen mashed potato!

muggglewump · 20/11/2008 20:07

I don't have the book but I did make the blue cheese bread after watching the show and it was fab.
I didn't write down the recipe though and taped over the show so I can't remember exactly how to do it.
Could anyone who has the book post it for me please?

MissisBoot · 20/11/2008 20:08

not that there's any thing wrong with frozen mashed potato

janeite · 20/11/2008 20:12

Thank you Wallaroo.

Would this be a good thread to discuss Nigella Express too?

Wallaroo · 21/11/2008 09:43

I think Nigella Express is better than the Delia book. What do you think?

muggglewump is it the potato, roquefort & sage bread ?

sagacious · 21/11/2008 10:55

I bought it to see what all the fuss was about, looked at it and put it away again. Zilch interest in any of the recipes

Jamie O's new one has become my most used everyday one (the curries are fab)

Wallaroo · 21/11/2008 12:39

Is that the Ministry of Food one? Has the programme finished now? I've just moved back from abroad and heard all the news about it, was looking forward to watching it but haven't been able to find so far so I presume it has finished? I am quite likely to get the book for Xmas as my whole family knows about fetish for cookery books

I like looking at Nigella Express but haven't acyually made anything out of yet, other than the Blackberry Crisp, which is gorgeous. At least Nigella uses "real" food, in faster ways, rather than assembling a whole load of processed stuff.

janeite · 21/11/2008 17:07

Actually - must learn to proof read.
