eating my words

I have made a really distressing discovery this morning.

For years and years I have really slagged off Lidl - due in no small part to having a boyfriend at university whose mother, despite being loaded, only ever shopped there (perhaps this is how she stayed loaded?!?) and then served us truly horrible food whenever we visited.

Also, I went to Lidl once about 10 years ago and found you could buy 12 varieties of German sausage but no potatoes, and so I have held forth on many occasions about the folly of opening these places in areas where poor pensioners have no transport to go elsewhere, blah blah blah blah.

I have, however, converted in recent years to Aldi. However, this morning I thought I would pop into Lidl to stock up on various types of lebkuchen, panettone, stollen etc. in preparation for Christmas...... and I've been forced to concede that it's possibly even better than Aldi.

Loads of branded stuff heavily discounted, stacks of yummy Christmas stuff, the fruit and veg looked really fresh, plus there was a bath & body range in really very stylish packaging which would look quite nice as a gift.

I never eat my words.... and now I have to. With a big side serving of humble pie.

I'm a recent convert to Lidl also.

I went there last night for what was only my second visit, with friends, to pick up a few things for the college barbecue.

I returned home with 3 bags, full of things for the house.

The white asparagus is amazing, I never thought jarred vegetables would taste so good.

I got a kilo of vanilla yoghurt for a pound and it's delicious.

Their crispy bacon is so good.I bought milk chocolate with strawberry yoghurt filling and I couldn't stop eating it.

The fruit and vegetables looked lovely and fresh, and I'm looking forward to trying my other goodies.

I'm rather ashamed of how snobbish I've been about it in the past.
