....do you have to eat it within 24 hours? Sure I read that somewhere. I have to make cakes tonight to be eaten on Saturday afternoon by children so don't want to risk it if it is true.

If the cakes are going to be cooked then I can't see why they have to be eaten asap. I made a cake with tinned fruit and it was so huge we ate it for days and days and no one was ill.

some might benefit from being kept in the fridge if it's hot, but not atm

I make banana loaf and apple loaf with fresh fruit and they keep for about 5 days although start to get a bit dry towards the end have not poisoned anyone.
