Help ... need quick answer on defrosting

Made a shepherd's pie base at weekend and put in freezer. It's now out and defrosted but COLD. Have potatoes ready to go on top. Is it safe to put the hot potatoes on top of the very cold base? TIA

As long as you cook it thoroughly it won't matter. It'll probably be easier cos the potatoes won't slide straight into the filling bit!
