Has anyone got a cheap and easy chocolate cake recipe

its my dads 50th at the weekend and i promised my dd we would make him a cake, the thing is money is tight and im a crap cook

Just a basic choclate sponge is dead easy and cheap.

Cream together 8 ounces of butter and 8 of flour. Add four eggs, beating each one in before adding the next. Stir in 7 ounces of SR flour and one of cocoa (I like Green and Blacks) and divide between 2 7 inch cake tins. Bake. Fill with fresh cream and raspberries, or fill and top with chocolate butter cream.

10 oz SR Flour
10 oz flora or butter
2 oz cocoa
8 oz caster sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp baking powder

whizz all together at once, split into two tins, 15-20 mins in the oven until top bounces back when you press it

fill with whisked double cream

top with 1 large bar melted dark chocolate mixed with large dash or double cream - makes soft creamy ganache
