Yes you can cook them in the oven first if you like. Then submerge them in sauce to serve

I rubbed a bit of oil over the oven tray and mine browned on that side, so if you're less lazy than me you can probably turn them partway through cooking and then they'll be brown on two sides (repeat deoending on laziness).

I put them in the oven on a wire grill tray, lightly oiled, on top of a shallow baking tray to catch the fat. They brown all over and cook very quickly.
