If it is altogether - a mixed bean stew on a bed of couscous.

PurplePillow · 07/11/2008 16:54

Or just chuck them all in the bin?

Zahrah · 07/11/2008 16:57

If seperate;

Yellow split peas - dahl

kidney beans - kidney bean & rice salad

plain couscous - add some chopped lamb, raisins, apricots onion, pepper,garlic , coriander, tomatoes,chilli and a generous squeeze of a fresh lemon.

chickpeas - hummus

Didn't know you could make dahl with split peas, I've only made it with lentils. DD loves it!

when you're boiling the chickpeas, make sure you don't salt the water as they won't soften.

CharCharGabor · 07/11/2008 17:12

cool, thanks for the tip. I don't usually add salt anyway as it's for DD too, but I'll try and remember. I think my main problem is that I add them too late so they don't cook for long enough.

ime chickpeas need a LOT of cooking - might be worth preboiling them before you do anything with them. (this is the reason i have an unused bag of dried chickpeas in the cupboard and a load of empty tins in the recycling )

CharCharGabor · 07/11/2008 17:21

Thanks. Will try preboiling them.
