Thanks for the reminder, I always miss this and wander in on Tuesday with a baffled expression, wondering where all the deals went

WhirlingStirling · 06/11/2008 23:30

We hadn't done this before but a couple of weekends ago we were in m&s so tried the offer and were very impressed.
We bought...
a large ready to roast chicken (£8.53)
a bottle of red wine (£4.49)
a pack of 4 yorkshire puds
a pack of 2 melting middle choc puddings
(can't remember how much last 2 should have been)

for a tenner!

Love this offer! Thanks for posting.

Whirling - so did your meal consist of just roast chicken and yorkshire puds then? (main course that is).

There was hardly anything left in my M&S this evening. Rubbish.

TheArmadillo · 07/11/2008 18:19

wasn't that impressed with it when went today.

Saving (according to receipt) = under £5.

Choice not huge.

and you still need to get veg to go with meal (only one side dish allowed - I chose potatoes) and something to go with the pudding (custard) because hot sponge odd with out anything over it in my opinion.

Not a huge choice either.

ChasingSquirrels · 07/11/2008 18:25

I got one a while ago, the chicken was enormous, been in the freezer and I got it out to cook it last week - wouldnt fit in the slow-cooker (normal chicken cooking method). Half of it fed 3 adults and 2 children, and used the rest over the next few days. Plus wine, puds and a veg (think I had new potatoes).
Obviously now a full meal as you would need other veg - but the components ARE a saving if you would be buying similar anyway.

TheArmadillo · 07/11/2008 18:32

There wasn't any whole chickens in ours. Just a joint of chicken to feed 2-3 adults.

So one meals worth.

I could see it being worth it for a whole chicken.

It was definately a meal deal to feed 2 with no leftovers. But I haven't seen it before so don't know if has been better previously. Or if it's different foods for individual stores.

WhirlingStirling · 07/11/2008 18:33

Rainbowchaser I used veg I already had at home (to be honest most of the side dishes had sold out so they offerred me the yorkshire puds) but - just like chasingsquirrels the chicken was very big and lasted a couple of days in different things.
The wine didn't last a couple of days though!

ChasingSquirrels · 07/11/2008 18:35

agree on the pre-made meals, if you can get a large chicken it is worthwhile though, iirc the one I got was £8.50 for the chicken alone.

I think it depends what individual stores have in, when I got mine it was a whole chicken (and they had stacks of them) or one type of ready meal. 2 veg choice, 2 pud choice and 2 wine choice.
