dinner party ideas

please help with ideas for what to cook for a dinner party, i have my boss and her husband coming over in a few weeks. He used to be a chef so no pressure!!

Have quite a few ideas about starters and dessert but have no idea about a main.

What i really want is something very impressive and yet easy. I'm not a total disaster in the kitchen but i just can't think!!!!

Keep it simple, depending on how much you wnat to spend, fillet of beef is easy seer it on all sides and bung in oven, with maybe dupinoise potatoes and vegetables, or Beef Stroganof which you can make ahead, with rice and salad.

For a smart dinner, rack of lamb with a herb crust looks good, or lamb shanks ar lovely slow cooked so no faffing in the kitchen. Or brnsley chops with a parsley and mint butter.

think i will go for lamb shanks, so now give me fav versions please

Lamb shanks done easily with red wine red onions, whole garlic cloves and rosemary then serve with mash and a veg, that is the one I do but can do them in tomatoes as well.
