Hi

My first time posting on the Recipe board- it seems like you all have really good ideas so I am begging for your help and advice!(grovel grovel)

On Halloween evening we are having 4 friends (adults) over, fairly informal just to watch a scary DVD and have a few drinks etc. Problem is Im not sure what to make food wise- I was thinking something we could eat whilst watching the DVD but more filling than just nibbles as people won't have eaten.

Dessert is sorted Im going to do a spiders web cheesecake.

Any ideas would be really appreciated!

I like the potato wedges idea...a bit more special than chilli maybe. We dont see the friends that often so I am keen to make an impression...

What dips do you think would go with pot wedges please? I can only think of salsa and guacamole and not sure that goes!

What about ghoulish black spaghetti (the squid ink dyed stuff you can get from specialist shops) with a spinach, cream and blue cheese sauce. The green black combination looks pretty halloweeny - a sort of witches hair with green slime effect - but utterly delicious.

Oh my god i love the idea of black spaghetti! We had this in Venice once and it was v ghoulish indeed. Just not sure where I would get it from, I live in the North East and specialist shops are thin on the ground to say the least. Wonder if i could get it online in time?

Any recipes for a spinach type pasta sauce much appreciated...

Just had a look on the internet for squid ink pasta- found some offering overnight delivery, so far so good- but delivery is £8!!! the pasta is only £2.50!!

Please could I have a tried and tested recipe for sour cream n chive dip from a kind person please? Plus other dip ideas- something tomatoey but not salsa maybe?

Thank youuu!

Thanks for your help, i am still tempted by the black pasat- theres one shop i can think of which just might have some.

Would need a sauce though...ive searched online for squid ink pasta recipes and most contain seafood/fish which one of my friends doesnt like...sigh!

Um thank you so much for taking the time to find the link but Im not sure thats it? Seems to be some kind of Robin Hood themed event?! Not sure they ate black pasta in those days...

notamumyetbutoneday · 27/10/2008 12:27

Think you are right could use any sauce- im thinking a tomato based one- would be like blood! Hope thats not too dull but I think the black pasta will be stunning anyway (hopefully!)

i know some of the ideas are childish but didnt know if they could be adapted for adults

AnnaCatherine73 · 27/10/2008 14:36

Hello

I have friends over on Friday too for a meal and I am going to make a beef in red wine stew (made in my slow cooker so I can keep it cooking all day) and I'm going to serve it to the table in a hollowed out pumpkin and ladel it on to the plates from the table. I've bought a few pumpkin tea lights and halloween table confetti to add to the theme but not go over the top.

Shelleylou, I liked the punch idea with the iced hand - I think I'll make an alcoholic punch using that idea - as a fun way of offering a first drink!! Thanks

nailpolish · 27/10/2008 15:20

make meringues in the shape of ghosts
serve with fruit

punch always goes down well - make it blood coloured- vodka and cranberry

nailpolish · 27/10/2008 15:21

if we are having friends over informally we always have a big pot of chilli, a big pot of rice, sour cream and tortillas

i for one cannot stand dips - gross
