another stir fry suggestion in this recipe

PerkinWarbeck · 18/10/2008 17:29

chop up some bacon, and fry in a little butter. add the cabbage, shredded, and sautee.

ScaryHalloweenSquonkRAAR · 18/10/2008 17:30

shred it and steam it, then stir in some butter and black pepper.

Serve.

Deeeeee-lish

Mix it with mashed potato for bubble and squeak?

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 18/10/2008 17:32

The idea in the recipe sounds really tasty, might have that with a lentil bake for tea tomorrow. Thankyou!

I make a layer 'cake' with it - with bacon (but could leave that out), cheese and sliced potato. Will try to find recipe - it was a Paul Rankin Irish thing.

But stir fry healthier!

mumhadenough · 18/10/2008 17:39

fry it up with bacon in the wok with some onions, delish!

mumhadenough · 18/10/2008 17:39

Ooops sorry, thats not veggie

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 18/10/2008 17:48

Hmm, think we might have a bit of bacon left, don't know if DP will sacrifice it for cabbage though! Might try bubble and squeak as well as there'll be plenty left. Thanks.

MrsNM that sounds delicious! mumhadenough, we're not actually veggie, but DD and I are eating only a small amount of meat as she doesn't like it and it saves money too. So a wee bit of bacon is all right

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 18/10/2008 17:57

I love a Madhur Jaffrey cabbage and peas recipe, which unfortunately I can't post as I'm not at home. Basically shred cabbage into long strips. Put a little oil in frying pan and cook cumin seeds for a few seconds until brown. Add cabbage and fry for a bit, add in peas. Add approx 1 tsp ground cumin, 1tsp ground coriander, half tsp tumeric, some finely chopped green chili (optional) and 2 tsps sugar. Fry gently until soft, add 2 tsps garam masala, stir and serve.

Cranberry · 18/10/2008 18:09

steam it, pour a little vinger over it,yummy

WezMeBroomstick · 18/10/2008 18:10

colcannon? tis delish

sunnygirl1412 · 18/10/2008 18:20

Shred it, put a big knob of butter on top, and a good grating of fresh nutmeg. Put a bit of water in the bottom of the pan, so it steams, and drain and serve it when the butter melts. Some of the butter ends up in the water you drain off, but you still get the buttery taste, and the cabbage is still crisp.

This made my children like cabbage.

popsycal · 18/10/2008 18:32

stick it in your bra if you get mastitis

otherwise :
shred it, stick it in a pan with a tablespoon of water
steam for 5 mins
add so crispy bacon (cooked earlier) then stir in some cream

lusgh with sunday lunch stuff
