Hi, I'm trying to wean my 20 week old dd, my problem is that she refuses to open her mouth, so I never seem to get anywhere - does anyone have any tips on getting them to open their mouths??

Didn't have this problem initially, but sometimes dd did refuse to open her mouth when faced with a spoon. Have you tried putting a little baby rice (or whatever) on your finger and giving her her first taste that way?

In my experience with both of my dd's, I would never recommend baby rice as it is very bland and tasteless. I started both mine on pureed carrots, broccoli and swede. If she won't open her mouth for your finger even, have you tried dipping her dummy in it (if she has one) just as a one off to get her started on solids

MMM.mmmmm technically it's still pretty early -- Corky, your baby isn't even 5 months old yet. Maybe she just isn't ready for solids? Some babies aren't interested until 7 months or later.

Otherwise, Sit child on your lap while you eat (mashed potatoes or milky porridge would be suitable) and let them poke fingers in and explore.

I always think it's amazing some babies don't want to eat; mine were real tigers about food from pretty early.
