My DS is 1.5 and is eating I banana, loads of grapes, 1 orange and sometimes a pear everyday!! I think this is too much and may have to hide my fruit bowl in my kitchen cupboard!! How much fruit do you give your kids?

He has a full set of teeth but he is that blummin' greedy he probably just swallows them whole.

I must admit that the increase is partly due to him learning how to climb up on dining room table and help himself - I keep finding him eating a satsuma like an apple, skin and all!!

DP has just mentioned he also had 2 bananas and a kiwi with him at breakfast - thats well over 10 pieces of fruit - eek! YEP, I think your right, I will limit it a little lol

MD, turkey twizzlers are vile processed breadcrumbed turkey, in the shape of a big long twist. All fat, additives and no goodness. And served to children in countless schools across the country

DD has healthy days and junk days. Healthy day contains of 1 banana, 1/2 an apple, couple of satsumas, some grapes, cucumber, carrot, broccoli & sweetcorn.
junk days consists of chocolate and nothing else really.

i think as long as there is a balance of other foods during the week then not worry.

I'm in Wales now. Don't watch tv but have heard about them when reading about the programme.Assumed they weres somethink like that. Just never heard people mentioning them like they do nuggets. Unbelievable what people will shovel into kids. I look at beautiful fresh faced little things pushing crap in and mentally fast forward them 30 years when they'll be flabby, bloated and ..damaged. Dear me...
(Sorry, ignore me. Don't want to start ranting again )

moondog · 04/03/2005 22:43

Like a turd basically then HM..!!

gingerbear · 04/03/2005 22:45

lockets, I also gave birth to a fruitbat.

bananas can cause the trots if too many are consumed.

kids portions of fruit are half of an adult portion (5-a-day)

ie 1 satsuma
6 grapes
6 strawberries
half an apple/pear/banana.

DD must eat 10 portions per day at least.

Have you finished with Turkey, moondog? I had assumed you would be going back.

HunkerMunker · 04/03/2005 22:46

Only if your turds look like this MD

Bubu, I don't think it's too much! It's great! My ds takes an apple, a couple of satsumas, a banana and anything else I've got like grapes and strawberries to school in his packed lunch. He doesn't always eat everything but that's ok. And he'll come in and eat fruit too, melon or mango. Dd (15mos) has had an apple, quite a few large strawberries, some very cut up grapes, some peas and various other things today - I'm pleased. Dp took loads of fruit for his lunch (strawberries, grapes, satsumas x 3, apples x 2, banana) and I ate quite a bit of it too today. I always have 2 or 3 large full fruit bowls full of apples, satsumas, bananas and we all help ourselves. There's also stuff in the fridge like strawberries, grapes, blueberries, mango. Peckarollover, I really wouldn't worry about it, my ds used to be able to eat 5 satsumas or more at a time and was fine. I think I prob did compensate for er, possible lots of poos by also giving him carbs, egg or something else too to um, bind it all up (sorry!) Satsumas are only small, you wouldn't worry about eating 2.5 oranges would you? And they're prob only the equivalent of that given their size.

JanH,just back for a few weeks so dd can attend Welsh medium school and so I can actually get out andtalk to people in RL. Those Van winters are very very long....

'fruit bat'!!! LOL

HunkerMunker · 04/03/2005 22:51

Medium school? Is she psychic?

moondog · 04/03/2005 22:53

LOL!!!!!!
Maybe....(creepy music starts up..)

Janh · 04/03/2005 22:56

Welsh medium school defo sounds like something out of H Potter. Does JKR know about it?

samwifewithkid · 05/03/2005 21:15

I try to be careful with dd as she will eat fruit till it comes out of her ears! Now we are potty training, you realise the importance of a firm poo

She has a fruit stick for mid morning snack, dried fruit pieces as a reward for wees and poos in potty throughout the day, grapes or equivalent for lunch, along with cherry toms or cucumber. An apple or pear for afternoon snack and bananas and custard for after dinner. We eat all sorts of fruit, exotic and normal, apricots etc..... just alternate it daily as to which ones she has.

winnie · 05/03/2005 21:20

Bubu, don't worry about the amount of fruit you are feeding your little fruit bat. It is wonderful that your ds likes fruit so much. It is a great habit formed early and will make your life much easier as time goes by.

Both of my children (aged 15 & 4) eat a huge amount of fruit and veg and i think the rda of five portions is only a minimum.
