If I make a sponge cake will it still be nice the next day?

I'm baking a cake for family who are coming over tomorrow. I am not a baker usually so this will be a bit experimental for me!

If I make it today and it turns out fine, will it still be nice tomorrow or will it have gone a bit dry/stale? Anyone have any good tips for keeping it fresh?

I can't face the stress of doing everything tomorrow morning.

As long as you put it into an airtight tin when cool, it should be ok.
