My best mate is a fab quiche maker, always brings one to parties and everyone loves them.
So I thought I'd give it a go (not to compete no point But I love hers so much.

So I made some shortcrust pastry, browned onions and bacon, mixed 6 eggs with block of cheese, cream, mustard and black pepper and it's now in the oven.

It smells good and as ds2 helped he's keen to eat it...will be first time he's tried one usually screws his face up.

Mmmm yum.

I just cheated with a Lidl cheese and onion one, you've made me feel all inadequate.

A genuine quiche thread. How exciting.

JumpingDizzy · 30/09/2008 18:30

It's out and looking good

Is that a note of sarcasm MM, I do have a life you know

There's enough here for 10 people but it'll get eaten got visitors tomorrow and kids look keen. Dp will eat plenty too.

Nooooo!

I love quiche and am in awe of anyone who can make a proper one, promise!

differentID · 30/09/2008 18:37

I love making quiche. I make a huge one that's supposed to feed 8, thinking it will last a couple of days but it barely lasts 24 hours 9I have to hide my slice for lunch the next day or dh will scoff it)

JumpingDizzy · 30/09/2008 18:39

well come here and have some as it's fantastic!! Kids are wolfing it down.

It's really easy, you could use bought pastry. But to be honest it's so easy to make shortcrust.

This one is massive but a quarter is gone already and kids are wanting more. I'll make 2 next time I think now that I know it's good.

Maybe we should have a quiche porn thread- for us to post our pics of successful (and otherwise) quiches

JumpingDizzy · 30/09/2008 18:46

I wish I'd taken a pic now

Did I say quarter gone...half now DS2 is on second helping.

mmmmmmmmmm quiche!

DH made me at MIL's house the other day because she had bought a quiche and he refused to eat it as it wasn't as nice as my home made ones!!! (There were other things on offer so not quite as if he was being a DC refusing to eat his tea!) Was very embarrassed because it's up to her whether she makes her own or buys one!
Anyway, well done Dizzy glad the DCs like it!

Quiche makers unite!

Did I read somewhere that "quiche" is MN speak for "clique"? Could we have a "Quiche Quiche"!

JumpingDizzy · 30/09/2008 21:13

Never heard that quiche means clique but sounds good to me

Did you mean ds or dh pookamoo? I suspect the former

JumpingDizzy · 30/09/2008 21:15

maybe we could call bought ones inadequiches? Getting a bit above oneself now

lol jumpingdizzy

pookamoo · 01/10/2008 17:03

NOPE! I mean DH, as in, 31 year old husband who should know better about claiming that his wife's cooking is better than the food his own mother provides!

ChopsTheDuck · 01/10/2008 17:13

i love quiche and make them, but only problem I can't seem to get right is that when I bake the pastry blind before putting the filling in it shrinks and so there are bits round the edge where the pastry doesn't quite go as high as it should!
I've tried sticking it straight in without the baking blind but then it is raw on the bottom. What am I doing wrong?!

pookamoo · 01/10/2008 22:44

Just make the pastry a bit taller than the dish (or over the sides a little bit) to give it some room for shrinkage? I think that's what I usually do.

JumpingDizzy · 04/10/2008 10:10

I managed not to bake blind and it cooked lovely?

pokamoo at your dh. What did his mum say?

Quiche went down well with everyone else and dp said it's on par with the excellent one he had in Paris once. I must say it was lovely, just hope I can do it again as good?
