I've never noticed a texture issue with hand-held .. but to be honest don't go for smooth as glass IYKWIM

I find that carrot is a lot more difficult to get smooth than sweet potato or pumpkin. I think I have had this problem before, and it might depend on the carrot - how fresh/young it is, IYKWIM.
