Does anybody have a really good biscuit recipe? maybe one that has been handed down rather than from a book?

Have some recipe books for biscuits but am not feeling inspired..

Thanks

I alway make these - kids and grownup like them - from annabel karmel book

These cookies should be quite soft when they are taken out of the oven so that when they cool down they are crisp on the outside but moist and chewy inside.

110g/4oz unsalted butter, softened
110g/4oz golden caster sugar
110g/4oz light muscovado sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
170g/6oz plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
150g/5oz chocolate, cut into small chunks

Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.
Beat the butter together with the sugar. ith a fork beat the egg together with the vanilla essence and add this to the butter mixture.
In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add this to the butter and egg mixture and blend well. Mix in the chunks of chocolate
Make the cookies: line four baking sheets with non-stick baking paper.
Using your hands, form the dough into walnut-sized balls and arrange on the baking sheets spaced well apart.
Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Allow to cool for a few minutes and then transfer to a wire rack.

i have a cracking shortbread recipe that you can make in a food processor and can use kids cutters to cut...

Nicky1313 · 25/09/2008 12:54

Sounds good, we love shortbread can you post the recipie and cooking instructions?

tassisssss · 25/09/2008 12:57

8oz butter (not marg!)
cup icing sugar
2cups plain flour
1 cup cornflour

bung all into food pro and whizz

cook at 160 for 15-30 mins depending on the thickness!

lovely on its own or can be iced by small people! (if iced don't do too far in advance or they go soggy!)

Nicky1313 · 25/09/2008 12:58

When you have whizzed it do you make individual shortbreads or one big one? the ingrediants sound lovely wouldn't have thought of putting icing sugar in? Thanks

tassisssss · 25/09/2008 13:00

you can do either but I tend to roll it pretty thin and use biscuit cutters
