Why is this? Is it going to taste bad? What shall I do with it once I have cooked it?

Some grain thing that isn't said how you would think.

I bought a bag out of the reduced section in tescos and now I'm just not sure about it at all.

i'm cooking it too, it's yum.secret is rinsing it first.

SuperBunny · 17/09/2008 18:40

Did you wash it first? You must rinse it really well

SmugColditz · 17/09/2008 18:42

er

or what will happen? (two fingers poised in mouth)

Don't know. I've never not washed it. Erm, good luck

overthehill · 18/09/2008 00:27

It's supposed to have potetially harmful chemicals in it if you don't wash it first. I toast it in the pan and then add water gradually, like with cous cous/bulghur, then cook it until the outer bits of the grain separate from the main round bit - like little rings around Saturn (very poetic!). Quinoa, which is supposed to be pronounced keen-wah, is very nutritious and high in protein, so it's good to go with a veggie-based main course dish eg ratatouille or some tomatoey stew. Delicious!

StellaDallas · 18/09/2008 00:32

I cooked some tonight. Didn't wash it first though. Am I going to die in the night?
Anyway, sorry to buck the majority opinion here, but I thought it was DISGUSTING. And I'm not exactly spoiled for choice atm as I have had to give up wheat.

SuperBunny · 18/09/2008 01:03

Of course it is disgusting if you don't rinse it first. If you wash off the yuckiness, it is delicious.

Colditz, did you eat it? Are you still with us?

SmugColditz · 18/09/2008 08:18

I had already eaten it! It tasted fine to me, I don''';'t feel harmed...

If you don't wash it beforehand, it tastes (and smells) like live goat. It's gross.

You need to rinse it lots.
