want to look like a competent cook and as though as have made an effort without being the talk of the playground for pretentious ponciness - iyswim?

so far ideas are:

  • fish pie
  • braised sausages and puy lentils
  • spinach, avocado, bacon salad with parmesan
  • pasta bake

any of these would be OK but seem a bit ordinaire? or are they fine?

she will also have her youngest of 2 with her so nothing too spicy.

thanks in advance for your help

I went round to another mum's house and we had antipasta - not the cheapest choice but it was such a treat to eat up all the tasty things! I can't even remember what she had for the children..... Last time I had a mum plus kids here we had spagetti with a courguette, garlic, parsley, lemon, onion sauce (dead easy just fry up with olive oil) and that went down well. I hope she's a nice lady after all of your research!

soup in a cup or deep bowl with bread, cheese & salad (super dressing on it). With some fruit pie for dessert.
