Jambuttie I have discovered I can make better bread than my breadmaker ever did and it hardly takes any time...

Well it was after watching the Hairy Bakers the other week. White bread goes like this :
700g strong white flour
1 teaspon salt
1 teaspoon dried yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
A tablespoon olive oil
400-500 ml warm water

Mix together everything except the water. Then add water to form a fairly sticky dough. Knead for 5 -10 mins (can be done by bread hook in mixer)
Cover with cling film and rise for two hours
Knead again till smooth (not so long)
Put in large buttered loaf tin (or two small ones) and leave to rise to top of tin (an hour)
Slash tops for split tin effect.
Put in pre-heated oven at 230C, gas 8 for 35-40 mins.
Take out of tin and retiurn to oven for 5 mins to crisp up sides. Should sound hollow when tapped.
Ta-daaa!
I find it very difficult not to immediately scoff the lot.
they also do a good brown recipe which basically involves leaving a starter mixture overnight and is totally easy. Here
