Other Peoples Eating Habits

Was having a coffee yesterday in a bistro type place,there was a man sat on the next table,i could hear him eating very loudly and it was making me cringe.he was eating with his mouth wide open

Could just be me but ive always been taught to eat like that is bad manners and i try and teach my 2 to eat nicely, am i just being old fashioned?

No you are not being old fashioned.

Eating with your mouth open is horrible for the very reason you state - it isn't very nice to watch.

I try and teach my two good manners too but unfortunately eating has spoilt DS1 a bit - he never used to eat with his mouth open and now I have to remind him about it too often.

I expect DS2 will go the same way now he is at school as well.

Somethings are negotiable (can't get too het up about elbows on the table if knives and forks aren't being used for example) but they still have their place imo.

That should read 'eating at school has spoilt DS1...'

I once worked for a guy who shovelled his food in at a rate of knotts (sp?) He chewed with his gob open and spat food everywhere. He tucked his napkin into his shirt too.

Problem was, we had lots of lunch appointemnst with clients.....

If only he wouldn't eat...

I have a friend who does this, and talks with her mouth full as well. Of course, her kids do this too.

It's horrible!

I had an hour long train journey recently opposite a very noisy sweet sucker! I really wanted to move seats but it was a packed train. This lady went through the lot while reading her book, wine gums, choc toffee eclairs, boiled sweets, arghhhh!!

If only Dr Northerner, if only.

You should see the state he gets himself into sometimes....maybe 'eating has spoilt DS1' would be more appropriate.
