That's the question really! Have a lovely recipe book but it's american and although I can work out most things that are different I don't know what to use for buttermilk. Might be able to get it in Britain but certainly can't get it in Spain! ...and I REALLY want to make these scones, they look SCRUMPTIOUS.

Does anyone know?

Plain yoghurt.

Nigella has a recipe that says butter milk but she gives an alternative if it's not available (can't get it here in Cyprus either) I'm sure it's milk and yoghurt, I will check for you.

I think half yogurt and half milk mixed together, or milk with a dash of white vinegar and left for a bit.

NL3 · 12/09/2008 12:15

nigella says a mix of yoghurt and semi-skimmed milk

what a handy site littlepin. was a bit at Egg (1 whole) use 2 egg yolks 2 tbsp plain flour

surely if you haven't got an egg you haven't got 2 egg yolks??

ComeOVeneer · 12/09/2008 12:50

I guess you might if you had recently made meringues and kept the yolks in the fridge.

Bumperlicious · 12/09/2008 13:12
