what's celeriac?

& what does it taste like.

Just doing my online shop and spotted it.

Also, what can you do with it? I thought I might get some to try . . . meant to be trying at least one new thing in each shop . . .

It's like a swede, but tastes of mild celery.
It's lovely mashed with butter and pepper.

Its a root vegetable I think. I can't quite describe its taste but you can roast it, mash it, or make a really lovely soup - a couple of recipes here

It's a whiteish-green, round root vegetable, about the size of a cabbage.

It has a mild celery/aniseedy flavour.

The French make a lovely hors d'oevre out of it, by chopping it finely and dressing it (raw) with a mustardy (I think) dressing.

Or you can make celeriac mash. Peel it and cut it into chunks, then boil for about 20 minutes until tender, and mash with butter/cream as you would do with potatoes.

It is root celery

You can also make it into a dauphinoise, just substitute celeriac for potato. It's much lower in carbohydrate than potato.
