Dates - do they normally look like this? URGENT

Do packed dates normally have whitish spots just under the 'skin'? I'm not familiar with dates really and have never noticed them before - are they likely to be mouldy do you reckon?

Urgent advice needed - I'm in the middle of cooking flapjacks.

AFAIK that is quite normal, but then a bit of mould couldn't hurt you could it?

I don't plan on eating them myself but the boys and DH love them. Just checking as I don't want to be dealing with a sick DH and/or sick children

no, it's crystalised sugar from the dates, not mould.
