no, I don't want to feed you all..

I have nearly a whole chickens worth of cooked meat which I need to use up. Any ideas?

I have natural yogurt, tomato, celery etc + most store cupboard type ingrediants.

Pref.. something I could freeze in portions, maybe.

I know you guys will come up with things I'd never think of

TIA

freeze some of it torn up and on it's own for sandwitches and wraps

Make a mushroom and white sauce and add some chicken as a great pie filling for another meal (maybe wth leeks too, or they can be added later)

Don't use the yoghurt if you want to freeze it.

Actually, your best bet is to just pull all the meat off the bone, cut or rip it into little peices, and freeze it in portions ready to use in meals in the future when you've actually got some nice ingredients to go with it.

I like to do a chinese thing but I'm not sure if it freezes ... fry chicken with frozen veg and fresh crushed garlic, add chinese 5 spice and dark soy sauce .. add pre-cooked rice or pre-cooked noodles

also chicken, mayo, sweetcorn and pasta

I don't like making pies or curry out of pre-roast chicken as I don't think it's as tasty and rather a waste of fresh lovely chicken

Twiglett · 02/09/2008 19:17

oh also the chinese thing .. if you cook the noodles in stock you get a wagamama style noodle soup dish (add cabbage, greens etc) and the kids love that

Twiglett · 02/09/2008 19:17

tell me you made stock out of the carcass

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 02/09/2008 19:18

Risotto, but you couldn't freeze it.

Overmydeadbody · 02/09/2008 19:20

yeah you can freeze twig's chinese thing, and you can freeze risotto too.

MascaraOHara · 02/09/2008 19:20

Ok, I already have chicken pies in the freezer.. the meat is already torn and off the bone. I made stock out of last weeks so alreayd have stock in the freezer.. as well as chicken risotto lol

and I have chicken sandwiches in freezer lol

I think I will just freeze it then and then use it for stir fries etc.

to be honest, didn't think about freezing it as it was

I'd still just freeze the chicken as is and then make these tasty suggestions on the day, adding the chicken.

Overmydeadbody · 02/09/2008 19:21

lol

Mascara do you have a chicken fetish or something? Or a very very big freezer? Either way I'm impressed

MascaraOHara · 02/09/2008 19:30

chicken fetish for sure lol..

I swore blind that I'd get organised from september 1st anyway.. had chicken roast week beofre last and used the meat to cook other stuff (as listed lol)

Then was going to do a chicken roast on Sunday but the chicken wasn't fully defrosted (bought two as on offer) couldn't put it back in the freezer so cooked it yesterday but now need to do something with it lol

and if your still awake..

...thanks all!

lol

Well if ever there is a nationwide chicken shortage I'll know where to come to stock up

BarcodeZebra · 02/09/2008 20:26

The whole concept is alien to me... I'd just pick at a leftover chicken all night and by bed time there's be none left. But if there was I'd make a monster sandwich with chicken, lots of mayo, black pepper and sliced cucumber. YUM.

And risotto. But you said that already.

tassisssss · 02/09/2008 20:27

Like others, I tend to freeze the cooked chicken in batches and then take out batch to make stir fry, curry or whatever.

mablemurple · 02/09/2008 20:44

I understood that you shouldn't reheat cooked meat more than once (risk of food poisoning). If you cook meals with already cooked chicken, you couldn't then reheat them after freezing. Well, you could, but personally I wouldn't feel happy about it. Freezing the cooked chicken on its own is probably the best thing.

Oh? Never seen cream in risotto before (but I do throw a whole bag of parmesan in).

Will try that trick when I'm low on cheese.
