jam roly poly question

I have a recipe, with simple enough instructions. The one thing I can't do simply because I don't have the required 'implement' is pop the roly poly, in its tin foil, on a rack over boiling water to go in the oven like it says to. Do I absolutely have to do it this way? or is there another way I could do it?

thanks

Put a pan or dish of boiling water on the bottom shelf, and the roly-poly on the shelf above it - bring the shelves closer together if you can. It will do the job just as well.
