I made it once and it was nice, in a food for weaning babies kind of way, but I'd rather have a lovingly crafted and more impressive looking pavlova any day.

It's good for when the meringues don't turn out too well though or you have to resort to shop bought

BrownSuga · 28/08/2008 23:40

My meringues failed the other day. So I mixed it with the choc/cream filling and turned it into some kind of mess. It looked like a cat had already eaten it when I served it. Next day bought some glass bowls in case it happens again, you can make anything look good with the right serving dish.

It's quick, it's easy, it tastes good. It's okay by me.

what the feck is Eton Mess?

some southern poncy name for leftovers?

Slouchy · 29/08/2008 08:24

It's yummy for crapcooks (TM), ok? Not that I am a crapcook(TM) (not where puds are concerned, anyway) but when people post going"Argh am crapcook(TM), what can I do that is easy and doesn't have to look splendid, EEEK!" it's a helpful answer.

So bog off back to Twatrose. (You can buy it readymade in there!)

LOL at "oh yes. Why is everyone talking about eton mess? Did we all go to private school? No we didn't. We read some rubbishy lifestyle mags".

A bit like buying a designer lipstick because you cannot actually afford the clothes.

bramblebooks · 29/08/2008 08:43

It is yummy. I make it with m&s meringues and get a strange sense of satisfaction from smashing them. This is not just an ordinary meringue massacre ...

I do make my own strawb. jam to mix it with, but I was always a slattern who tried that bit harder.

The problem with pavola is that you really can't cut it, serve it, and eat it without agreat deal of STRESS

whereas Eton Mess you just shovel it in

mmmmmmmmmmmmm
