lucysmam · 26/08/2008 18:36

Madlentileater, that sounds a bit odd, how do you roast lentils?? (feel a bit daft for asking but if you don't ask you don't find out!)

They go really well with sausages

Madlentileater · 26/08/2008 18:42

lentil roast
fry onions, garlic, herbs
meanwhile cook red lentils, with miniumum water.
Mix lentils and fried stuff plus some tinned tomatoes. Add breadcrumbs if very sloppy. Add 1-2 beaten eggs. Line a loaf tin, put mixrure in, bake for 45 mins- 1 hr. Eat with roast spuds etc.

lucysmam · 26/08/2008 18:42

Squeaky, what do you do with them to put them with sausages? All my questions sound sooo odd when reading them back but am very curious because I've only just discovered them and wondered what else I could do with them

lucysmam · 26/08/2008 18:45

oh yes, and i used to do a sort of shepherd's pie, very basic lentils onions garlic for bottom layer, then a tomatoe sauce layer, then mashed potatoes.

lucysmam · 26/08/2008 18:46

cheers expat, will have a look at that too. sounds like they're quite versatile! maybe we ought to use them more since meat's getting soooo expensive!

You can do lots of things that you'd usually do with mince. I've posted a lentil moussaka recipe on here before - you should find it if you do a search.

SqueakyPop · 26/08/2008 18:47

I usually fry an onion, add a bit of wine, and then the moist cooked lentils. Dish them up and add the sausages on top.

stirlingmum · 26/08/2008 20:28

Been searching for more lentil recipes myself and came across this spiced lentil and bacon dish.

Looks tasty and cheap, always a good combination

lucysmam · 26/08/2008 20:38

thanks stirling, i had a look at the lentil soup thread earlier, will be trying some of them out at some point over the next couple of weeks
