No, you use a sponge base, then icecream, then meringue.

traditionally it is a sponge base, or those sponge flan bases they sell in supermarkets but you can use a cookie dough base too.

It is esentally just some sort of cake base, a pile of yummy ice cream, and a complete covering of meringue

Unbelievably lovely if done well.

I like making a toffee nut one, with lovely toffee ice cream and toffee sauce

Tis very easy and you could buy the sponge to make it easier from the supermarket.

Buy a flan base from shop.
mix up egg whites 7 sugar
stick ice-cream on flan base & put on strawberries / other fruit.
Smother with "peaked" egg whites and sugar mix
Bake in oven
