I've had it sitting with an over ripe banana all day but it is no softer. I wanted to put in in fahita's tonight - any one know any magic tricks so I can?

put in brown paper bag at room temp preferably with a ripe banana

Cadbury · 20/08/2008 19:26

Oh bu&&er. I got it yesterday and it came from the reduced bucket at Sainsbugs. When I picked it, it felt like it was nearly there but doesn't feel anything like it now.

PANTS!

what type of avocado is it Cadbury?

Some varieties with thick skin don't feel 'soft' and ripe but are in fact ripe inside.

Cadbury · 20/08/2008 19:39

Its a Hass avocado. I dug my nail in and it feels pretty hard inside too

Never buy an avocado which isn't even slightly squeezable.

Mind you, a few can go rotten really quickly too.

Alas, they are a tricksy fruit.

Actually they are, technically speaking, a berry. A sly and tricksy berry.

In a *plastic bag, sealed with a banana

Ripe banana produces the plant hormone Ethene, which is a gas, which wil stimulate other fruit to ripen.

Plastic bag will keep the gases in the vacinity better
