child friendly courgette?

I have a courgette, that ds1 asked me to buy (cannot stand them myself, so don't buy them)

I really want him to like it. I will gag it down with a ton of salt and a smile, but I am doing a roast chicken dinner and need a nice way to give it to him.

Any ideas? How about with cheese - can you do that?

To I cut it into strips and let it be floppy or chunks and let it be crispy?

The strips would suit me, but I don't actually like cougette, and I imagine it would diguise the flavour!

I slice diagonally so the bits are too small - they're long strips that way. About 5mm thick. Then I griddle them so they have a nice burnt bit.

Just fried in butter though is probably fine.

dd seems to love them (useful as we have loads in the garden!). We usually just steam/boil them for a few mins but sometimes I slice lengthways, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with parmesan/other cheese and put them under the grill and that might be more palatable?

Quite nice cut into chunks and roasted, maybe with some red pepper (or other veg), with a bit of olive oil.

If I'm doing them in a roast, I just cut them into chunks and bung them in with the meat about 20mins from the end.

As a side dish for another meal, I fry them in olive oil and serve them sprinkled with black pepper and a bit more olive oil. Hmmm!

Slice, dip in flour, then in egg then back into flour. Fry lightly with a knob of butter and a little sunflower oil.

I would do almost as bellavita says only slice really really thinly (like paper if you can). Put all the slices in a bowl, just cover with milk or milk/water half and half, and put a plate and a weight on top. Then flour really thoroughly with seasoned flour (white pepper and that dried ground garlic work well, but can add chilli or smoked paprika or anything) and fry until golden, turning often. It's gorgeous.

Can cut into very thin spaghetti shape and boil and serve instead of pasta with a tomato sauce or
courgette cake - like carrot cake but with courgettes as dessert

I don't really use courgette as a side vegetable like that (and I eats tons, I do), but griddled and dressed with lemon juice and olive oil is v v nice.

I baked them in the oven with butter and salt and pepper.

They tasted like bogies wtith butter and salt and pepper.

He ate one slice, declared it "delicioso" then refused point blank to eat any more, saying he was "Full of that now, thank you"

I think he just couldn't bare to admit he didn't like it. I did eat mine, all of it, with a smile on my face if not a song in my heart, so it's not like he heard me going "Oh my effing God, I'm going to be sick, what slimy horror is this?"

Which is what I was thinking.

Grate courgette, potato, onion and sqeeze juices out a bit. Grate in parmasan and mix.

Heat butter in pan, dollap in a spoonful and flattened into patty. Fry for 5+ minutes until a good crust formed then turn and fry other side.

My dcs really liked it - possibly to do with the amount of butter and frying

Here's another one for you. Slice it, put it in a microwave dish with some butter and tomato puree. Cover, and cook for about 3 mins and then serve.

I'm going to make rosti tomorrow, thanks Slur. Ds does not like courgettes OR potatoes but covered in butter and fried might be tolerable. Or, failing that, ketchup

DSs hate courgette except in pancake (grate, fry a bit to dry it out, put in pancake mixture, make pancake), and in miso soup.

Tried this too but cake-shaped things that didn't taste like cakes don't seem to work! Will try it in bread shape soon.
