Is it just a moist chocolate sponge cake then? Is it nicer than chocolate victoria sponge

(thinking for DS's 4th birthday cake)

The devil's food cake that my mum makes is drenched in brandy, so probably not for a 4th birthday unless you're having a special grown-ups' cake .

There is a gorgeous gorgeous squishy chocolate cake recipe that I have in a book somewhere - Nigel
Slater I think - but it is very rich and my ds (also almost 4) would rather have a normal chocolate sponge (or ideally giant chocolate crispy cake). Will dig it out if you would like though.

Here in the US, devil's food is just a moist chocolate sponge. It's pretty nice, but never having had chocolate victoria sponge, I can't compare.

More moist, more chocolate frosting. Much nicer (and packed full of fat!) than a victoria sponge IMHO Probably wasted on 4 years olds, make one and eat it yourself

It is to go into the middle of a castle (ie I'm building a castle in icing around it) .. what do you think? plain chocolate sponge or devil's food?
