Nestle "Drinky Plus"

Saw an advert for this while watching ER last night. Great for kids and apparently "just two small bottles contain all the calcium of a glass of milk!"

So why not just give them a glass of milk ?

Aaaarrrgghh, FFS, who buys this sh*t and WHY?

Why doesn't it surprise me that its Nestle.

But Julie, how can you say that? Nestle are a truly ethical company with the best interests of children at heart...

Erm... no idea of what the product is like, but what about kids that won't drink milk or are allergic to dairy? I know the water with added calcium (danone?! can't remember now) would reassure me if I had dairy-phobic kids! (Fortunately, mine love yoghurts and cheese even though they're not huge fans of the liquid white stuff!)

yeah but (no but) you know that if it's made by nestle it's bound to be chocful of sugary 'goodness', with a bunch of additives to match. just an assumption, of course...i could be wrong

I still think that water with added calcium is a neat idea... which I could remember who it was who made it.

I just remember being thrilled when ds1 decided he adored muller vitality yoghurt drinks as it was something to increase the calcium repertoire! Please don't tell me they're loaded with sugary crap and the probiotics don't do anything or all my illusions will be shattered...

Casmie, they won't do anything that a dollop of plain live yoghurt wouldn't (minus the sugar and at probably a third of the price...)

I can't resist adding this here- dd (age 6) asked me if Nestle kill babies. I said it was very complicated, but I would try to explain, and she said well, she had some chocolate on her baking at school, and when they came out her best friend said "whatever you do don't go near my baby sister with that- if you eat Nestle chocolate and then breathe on babies they die". Bless.

Casmie, was it Volvic that did the calcium enriched water? I couldn't bring myself to buy it because I felt it would taste chalky!

We have calcium enriched 100% orange juice in NZ, which I found useful when on an exclusion diet. I hate these ads that compare manufactured drinks to natural products. My least favourite is the toddler milk with "10 times the iron" of cows milk. Cows milk isn't supposed to be high in iron, there would be bugger all point because of the calcium. My toddler is surviving perfectly well without cows milk or toddler formula. Friends who tell me they buy it are met with a bemused look, especially if they then follow it up with a monologue about constipation.

Tropicana do calcium enriched OJ. As do Tescos I think...

Actimel has 4 tsp of sugar in each one, don't they!

i'm sure it was danone or someone that did the calcium water with adverts about a family of skeletons. only remember it so well because i was in my 1st trimester with dd and bought some as i thought it'd be good for me. next week started havinf monring sickness and whenever i saw the advert after that i retched at the thought of drinking it.
