the stuff I pour over when it's cooked is meant to be syrupy, isn't it? Not icing?

Will a 9x13 tin be big enough?

You're too late - it's in the oven now

Yes, and yes.

zaphod · 18/07/2008 01:09

Aren't you great to be baking so late at night?

UnderRated · 18/07/2008 01:12

Thanks Zaphod. It's in a bigger tin so I'm hoping it won't come out too thin and biscuity.

It's only 7pm here so not all that impressive really. Gone are my baking all night days

Phew, I thought you were super Mummy, baking into the small hours.

UnderRated · 18/07/2008 01:17

No, sadly not SuperMummy. DS still bouncing around in his room, kitchen a mess, stuff everywhere... but cake in oven, so all good

So how's the cake?

UnderRated · 18/07/2008 02:08

Fabulous

Much better than Nigella's

I just finished pouring the icing over and tried a corner piece - it was so hot it hurt. But totally worth it!

Thank you

This is one of the recipes that makes me really angry I don't know how to cook in British.

UnderRated · 18/07/2008 05:19

I reckon, in cups, it should be:

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups Flour (all purpose)
4 eggs
6 tsp baking powder
6tbsp milk ( but I think out tbsp are bigger than yours - would be ~ 90mls)
grated rind 2 lemons

Method
Pre-heat oven to G4/335F/170C
Mix all the ingredients together. Put in lined tray. Bake about 30-40 mins (until knife comes out clean). Prick cake with fork and pour over some warm lemon juice (see below).

Squeeze the juice from the lemons and heat (20 secs in microwave). Add icing sugar to consistency you like. Spread over cake.

I think I love you. Scratch that, I KNOW I do.

Hope it works though, Dooney. I'm not making any promises. Please report back!
